WASHINGTON (AURN News) — On the eve of another high-profile Senate hearing, more than 155 scientists, physicians and public health advocates are publicly defending Dr. Anthony Fauci, accusing the Trump administration and its allies in Congress of waging what they call a political campaign against science.
In a letter released today, the group urged lawmakers to end what it described as the ongoing harassment of Fauci and other researchers, arguing that attacks on scientists now extend beyond funding cuts to include public accusations, criminal investigations and threats of prosecution.
The statement comes just before Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is expected to question Fauci during a Senate hearing.
The signatories reject long-standing allegations that Fauci covered up the origins of COVID-19 or concealed government involvement in virus research.
