On July 17, the Espanola Legion celebrated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the official incorporation of the Royal Canadian Legion. A letter from Berkley Lawrence, the Dominion president of the organization, addressed the origin of the Canadian Legion and how it has evolved over the years. “What began as Veterans uniting to support one another grew into a national organization dedicated to serving Veterans and their families, honouring the Fallen, and strengthening communities across Canada,” he wrote. The July 17 celebration of 100 years of service took place in Legions across Canada, honouring everyone who had a part in shaping the Canadian Legion into the entity it is today. The Espanola Legion celebrated the milestone anniversary with various activities, including a Centennial Edition Meat Roll Off, a ceremony marking the occasion with the March on the Colours, and guest speakers.
