Massey won’t go down in history for holding the largest garage/yard sale in history but on Saturday, July 11, a local citizen in the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers sure made an extraordinary effort. By the way, for those interested, the largest, in physical retail terms, the largest annual garage sale is the “127 Yard Sale” which spans 690 miles across six states from Addison Michigan to Gadsden, Alabama and takes place over a four-day period in August each year. The Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers has a land area of approximately 801.04 km, which translates to about 309.28 square miles. For historical buffs, it’s interesting to note, the ‘biggest garage sale’ title belongs to the former Soviet Union (USSR). With Russia selling off 90% of its industries at drop down throwaway prices, the event there in 1991 became known as “the largest garage sale in history.”
