This time again he has underlined the lack of engagement from the Indian-American community on the issues that have a direct impact on India. These include the tariff plus penalty imposed by the United States(US) on India for doing trade and business with Russia and the H-1B visa restrictions. He spoke his mind as he welcomed the US Congressional delegation in New Delhi.It is pertinent to mention that the five member delegation that includes all the Democrats with majority of them from California.They have expressed tremendous interest in India and they underlined that the US Congress continued to value and support the strategic partnership with India.Giving details of the visit,Tharoor said, “We had a very good visit from a US Congressional delegation which consisted of five members of the US House of Congress.They spoke very warmly and positively of the relationship and the most important message that came out was that a lot of American opinion,including in Congress,is strongly committed to the Indian relationship despite setbacks like the H1-B visa issue , the 50 % tariff setback and the sanctions on Chabahar Port.” But what according to Tharoor is surprising is that why the Indian -American diaspora had not been vocal on these matters that concern India.Substantiating his concern he said that the visiting Congresswoman that she had not received a single phone call from any Indian -American voter for this anti-India policy.Tharoor called it surprising and asked the Indian diaspora to speak up if they are concerned about India.He emphasised that “ If you care about the relationship with your motherland then you also have to fight for it,speak for it and press your political representatives to stand up for India.”At the same time giving the holistic picture he said that the members of the delegation are friends of India and are well disposed.He made it clear that the US lawmakers praised the strength and resilience of the Indian economy and highlighted the contribution of the Indian diaspora.Though the concerns about the H-1B visa and the big hike in the fee upto USD 100000.Besides this the issue of the US sanctions waiver for Iran’s Chabahar Port that is being developed by India and the 50 % tariff that has been imposed on India.Indian parliamentarians raised concerns over these serious issues during an interaction with the visiting US Congresspersons.The session was chaired by Dr.Shashi Tharoor.Whar Tharoor has said has a national import.The Indian diaspora must assert and make Indian concerns visible before the US policy makers so that there is no more trivialisation of the Indian interests.Trump 2.0 regime has been getting hostile day by day towards India in spite of India trusting the American friendship.If this antagonism is not reversed by the Trump regime the relations can nose dive to worst levels.This unwanted policy of damaging the India interests can have devastating impact on the already fragile geo-strategic ecosystem of the South Asia.Only time will tell as to what has prompted the Trump regime to betray India.On the one side it terms India as a friend but on the other its policy calibrations make it clear that the US has something else in mind.Voices like Tharoor must multiply to uphold the national interest.
