Bid for closed North Yorkshire pub to be community asset rejected amid housing fears

The Coore Arms in Scruton near Northallerton shut in February after landlord Mark Brown said he could not continue to lose money on the business.
The closure prompted Scruton Parish Council to nominate the pub for community asset status with North Yorkshire Council.
The parish council said in its application that it was hoped the pub could be community-run in the future, amid concerns the premises could be turned into housing.

Asset of community value status would have given the community extra time to organise a bid to buy the property if it was put up for sale.
