Back Roads: July 30In Wycheproof, Victoria, the King of the Mountain race is a 1km uphill sprint carrying 60kg of wheat. On Back Roads this week Lisa Millar heads to Wycheproof in Victoria’s Mallee region. Wycheproof, in Victoria’s Mallee, is a town of around 600 people who host the ‘toughest footrace in Australia’ to the summit of their unique mountain. Wycheproof’s King of the Mountain race originally ran from 1978 to 1988. By reviving the event in 2023 as a footy fundraiser, the footy team gained a new lease on life.
