The Penticton Art Gallery, a non-profit heavily subsidized by City of Penticton taxpayer dollars, as well as donors and grants, did not respond to Castanet's requests for comment over the weekend.
"As you may know, a public art gallery has a responsibility to collect and care for a specific type of art based on their mandate.
Social media chatter was alive with comments wondering why a local charity was not chosen or, given that the art gallery has publicly complained about financial woes, auctioned off.
