Gary Wilson, general manager of Inn on the Lake in Ullswater, is in the running for General Manager of the Year at the 2026 Boutique Hotelier Awards. Mr Wilson, originally from Yorkshire, has managed the hotel since July 2000, making his nearly 27-year commitment to a single venue unusual in the industry. "I've never seen this as an individual achievement because everything we've accomplished at Inn on the Lake has been a team effort. The hotel became a base for relief efforts, working alongside the Army to distribute provisions.
