Assault charges were filed against Gary Simmons, a Democratic delegate in Anne Arundel County. Simmons will appear in court Aug. 24 for a preliminary hearing to answer second-degree assault charges. The Anne Arundel County Police Department said Simmons was cited following a fight at his Brooklyn Park home Thursday night involving his stepdaughter. Simmons, who is charged with a misdemeanor, will face a trial in September. He is running for a second term in office.
