Riyadh — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced Monday that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory.
Spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said the unmanned aircraft attempted to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province and the Riyadh region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a separate statement condemning the assaults “in the strongest terms,” denouncing the use of Iraqi soil by militias affiliated with Iran to launch drone strikes.
The statement reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s determination to safeguard its sovereignty and deter aggressors, while urging the Iraqi government to take decisive measures to prevent its territory from being used as a staging ground for attacks.
The incident underscores ongoing regional tensions, with Saudi officials warning that repeated drone and missile strikes pose a serious threat to civilian infrastructure and energy security.
