In a bold move to mark the United States’ upcoming 250th anniversary, the Treasury Department has unveiled a proposed design for a new dollar coin featuring President Donald Trump.
The design draws directly from one of the most defining moments in recent American political history: Trump’s defiant fist pump following an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The tails side of the coin depicts Trump raising his fist against the backdrop of an American flag, encircled by the words “Fight, fight, fight”—a direct nod to the president’s rallying cry immediately after the shooting.
This commemorative coin is part of a series authorized by Congress in 2020 through a bipartisan bill, allowing the Treasury Secretary to issue $1 coins in 2026 to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
While the design is still a draft, it echoes historical precedents, such as the 1926 sesquicentennial half dollar that featured then-sitting President Calvin Coolidge for the 150th anniversary of independence.
