The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) is set to convene its first Continental Conference on Catholic Education in Africa to provide strategic direction for Catholic education as a catalyst for evangelization across the continent. In a press release dated Thursday, July 23, the SECAM Secretary General, Fr. Rafael Simbine Junior, says that the conference scheduled for August 6 to 8 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, will be held on the theme, “Strengthening Catholic Education for Integral Human Development in Africa”. “The Conference aims to strengthen continental collaboration and provide strategic direction for Catholic education as a catalyst for evangelization, integral human development and sustainable social transformation across Africa and its Islands,” Fr. The SECAM Secretary General says the conference convened in response to the mandate of the 20th SECAM Plenary Assembly that was held in Kigali, Rwanda, in July 2025 will bring together more than 100 participants, including Bishops responsible for education, Catholic universities, national Catholic education commissions, religious congregations, education experts, researchers and partners.
