SOUTH KOREA: Former president Yoon Suk Yeol was convicted today of making false statements during his election campaign, in the latest verdict after he was removed from office last year over his brief imposition of martial law. The Seoul Central District Court sentenced Mr Yoon to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years, saying his false statements during the campaign may have affected voters’ “fair judgement” of the candidates. PAKISTAN: The death toll from monsoon rains and flash floods over the past month surpassed 100 today as weather forecasters warned that more heavy rain is expected later this week.
