The country yesterday recorded its highest-ever daily hospitalisation of measles patients since the outbreak began in mid-March, raising fresh concerns about the persistence of the outbreak two months after the nationwide measles vaccination campaign. The development comes as the government reports it has exceeded its target in the emergency measles vaccination campaign. At the same time, the number of measles cases and deaths continues to rise. Five more people died with measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll from confirmed and suspected measles cases to 825. A total of 23,031 patients, including 1,415 admitted in the last 24 hours, were hospitalised in July, averaging 886 admissions a day.
