A rape trial has collapsed after the alleged victim used AI to prepare her answers in court. A case at Lewes Crown Court was called off after the complainant, referred to only as C, admitted using an AI chatbot to prepare for a cross-examination. While lawyers are allowed to prepare their clients for trial, including by carrying out mock examinations, they are strictly prohibited from shaping evidence or rehearsing testimony. In the Lewes case, the Crown Court initially agreed that a fair trial would be impossible. It led to information on C's phone being handed over to the defence, including chat logs with the AI bot.
