Berlin remains in shock following the attack on the "Christopher Street Day" (CSD) parade on Saturday. Authorities quickly said the incident was a terrorist act committed by an Islamist. He was known to the police as a sympathizer with the Islamist terrorist militia "Islamic State" (IS) in Syria. The main opposition party, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) spoke of a total failure of security policy. He noted that prison sentences in Germany are short by European standards, particularly when compared to those in France and the United Kingdom.
