Islamabad and Rawalpindi are set to be connected by a new rapid train service, a project officials say will transform daily commuting between the twin cities. The plan, cleared in a meeting chaired by Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday, outlines a direct link between Islamabad’s Margalla Station and Saddar Station in Rawalpindi. A rail link that offers speed and affordability could help take pressure off roads, cut fuel costs for commuters, and reduce traffic bottlenecks during peak hours. Railways Minister Abbasi called the train “a public welfare initiative” designed to make travel more convenient for citizens.
