NADRA Plans Facial Recognition for Seniors Struggling with Fingerprints

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is preparing to roll out facial recognition technology to help elderly citizens who often face difficulties with fingerprint verification.
NADRA spokesperson Shabbahat Ali, speaking on Geo News’ program Geo Pakistan, said the initiative is aimed at making identity verification more accessible for senior citizens whose fingerprints become harder to scan with age.
To process a child’s identity card, the CNIC of at least one parent must be presented—even if the other parent is unavailable.
Why It MattersThe introduction of facial recognition could significantly ease the registration process for seniors, who often struggle with fingerprint verification due to age-related changes in skin texture.
By pairing this upgrade with expanded facilities, NADRA aims to improve both accessibility and efficiency in Pakistan’s identification system.
