Our former Style Director Gabby Deeming has created a wonderfully romantic country bedroom in her Devon house, where the bedroom ceiling was taken down to expose the joists with plain plaster left down to the picture rail, giving a rustic feel to the space. The walls are Farrow & Ball's ‘Dimity’, whose pinkish hue makes it a perfect off-white for the plaster. Gabby has added a sheer curtain to the bed (a discontinued cotton sheer from Colefax and Fowler), and then layered colourful textiles on the bed. Equally, a white-washed wall and modern wooden furniture can seem just right in ancient rooms where the quirks of the surroundings need to be balanced by a simple aesthetic.
