Sudbury Cyclones edged at Sigma, continue chase to avoid relegation
['Ben Leeson']
Sudbury Star
The Sudbury Cyclones narrowly failed to extend their win streak to three games on Sunday evening, but still kept pace with the teams they’re chasing down the stretch in Ontario Premier League 1 soccer.
Dante Ruddock, in the 41st, and Andre Beecher, in the 45th, had opened up a two-goal advantage for the hosts before the Cyclones fired back.
Sigma then settled in to defend in the second half and held on for a victory despite heavy pressure from the Sudbury side.
Article contentSunday’s loss came after back-to-back road wins over Scrosoppi FC, 2-1 on July 11, and Simcoe County Rovers FC, 1-0 on July 22, which sandwiched a pair of scheduled matches that were postponed due to wildfire smoke.
The Cyclones will then host IFC on the 12th, then Woodbridge on the 14th to finish the schedule.
