This summer I've had the privilege of working with the Development Director of the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation (ICPLFF), Katie Roche. I see advocacy work mirroring the same kind of work consultants do in strategic advising. Like a consultant's, my deliverables come from deep research and groundwork mapping the current state of library advocacy. There, I discovered gaps in Iowa's advocacy and a strategy for closing them. On July 16, 2026, the American Library Association's Council adopted its "Guidance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Libraries."
