Two Spanish men caught on a boat carrying cannabis resin worth £1.4m were jailed by the Supreme Court on Monday, one for four years, the other for three and five months. Customs officers on HMC Searcher intercepted and boarded the vessel, where they found seven bales of cannabis resin. In sentencing, Puisne Judge Matthew Happold acknowledged the arguments presented to the court both in mitigation and as aggravating factors. The court heard he had served time in prison in Spain for transporting 110kg of cannabis resin from Ceuta to Spain. In a letter to the judge, Otero also expressed remorse for his actions and said he had never been involved in the drugs trade previously.
