Ground reporting mattered because it closed the gap between official narrative and lived reality. Delhi Police described their actions as necessary for public order; independent reporters on site showed footage that complicated that claim. Algorithms reward outrage over verification, and large media houses often have commercial or political entanglements that shape what gets covered and how. Much of the local media, constrained by advertising dependence on government departments and limited resources, understandably struggles to sustain long-form, adversarial ground reporting. Nagaland deserves reporters willing to do the same, on our own ground, for our own institutions.
