Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): Twelve undertrial prisoners (UTPs) lodged in jails across Nagaland were released during the April-June quarter following recommendations of the Under Trial Review Committees (UTRCs), the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) said on Monday. According to the NSLSA, Nagaland's Central Jail and 10 district jails currently house 333 undertrial prisoners (319 male and 14 female) and 111 convicts (110 male and one female). Of the total undertrial population, 26 prisoners were found eligible for release under various categories. Following the grant of bail or completion of related legal procedures, 12 undertrial prisoners were subsequently released. The committees also reviewed cases requiring medical treatment, legal aid and other prisoner-related issues.
