New Malden station has a new waiting room featuring artwork celebrating the area’s large Korean diaspora.
Around 20,000 people of Korean heritage live in New Malden and the surrounding area, earning the south-west London suburb the nickname “Koreatown”.
A Korean-language station sign, first unveiled at the station entrance during Kimchi Day celebrations last November, has now been permanently installed inside the new waiting room on Platform 4.
The sign, written in the Korean alphabet, Hangul, is romanised as Nyu Moldeun, and it is simply the Korean transliteration of New Malden.
We’ve also made improvements which will benefit all our customers that travel through New Malden station.”
