•••By most accounts, this year's rollout of Minnesota's paid family leave program has been a success, with 75,000 people approved to receive benefits so far.
In the absence of a federal leave program, the states that have created their own programs give us key insights about the broad benefits of paid leave — including, most notably, the growing importance of paid leave for new fathers.
But one of the most interesting — and hopeful — lessons from paid leave programs is about new fathers.
As one might expect, paid leave was more common in states that have passed policies requiring it for most employers.
The early data from Minnesota shows that more than a third (36%) of paid leave applications filed were from men.
