Bindyarani Devi continued India’s strong performance in weightlifting by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 58kg final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. This is her second Commonwealth Games medal, following the silver she won in the 55kg event at the previous Games in Birmingham. Bindyarani Devi then increased the weight to 112kg for her second attempt and completed it successfully, moving up into the silver medal position. While Bindyarani was competing, Canada’s Ann-Sophie Taschereau who went on to win the silver medal almost got knocked out of the competition early. Lawal finished with a total lift of 229kg across both rounds.
