Once a BS VI vehicle is more than ten years old, the PUCC will have to be renewed every six months. While BS VI vehicles will receive longer validity because of their lower emissions, BS IV vehicles will continue to renew their PUCC every six months. If the proposal is approved, owners of newer BS VI vehicles will have to visit pollution testing centres less often. India implemented BS VI emission standards in April 2020 after skipping BS V to accelerate pollution control. Compared with older Bharat Stage vehicles, BS VI compliant vehicles produce significantly lower emissions when maintained properly.
