Since taking on the general manager position back in December 2024, things have not gone as expected as the Tar Heels limped to a 4-8 record and went 2-6 in the ACC last season. Lombardi has been placed on paid administrative leave effective immediately, per UNC's vice chancellor Dean Stoyer. As college sports have moved closer and closer to mirror the professional ranks, general manager positions have become more common. Lombardi, with a long track record of success at several different NFL stops, was an attractive candidate at the time to move UNC forward. This is a developing story and there has not been much more information released outside of the university's statement.
