JSC urges Ramaphosa to suspend EC Judge President Selby Mbenenge

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has formally advised President Cyril Ramaphosa to suspend Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge.
Furthermore, Mbenenge is seeking an interim interdict to block President Ramaphosa from suspending him, and to halt parliamentary impeachment proceedings.
In his defense against the suspension, Mbenenge argues that the measure is redundant because he is already on approved special leave and is not actively performing judicial duties.
It is the first time a Judge President, the country's second most senior regional judicial leader, faces potential impeachment over sexual harassment and the abuse of institutional power.
If President Ramaphosa acts on the JSC’s recommendation, Mbenenge will be suspended immediately.
