Attributable to Inspector Natasha Rodley, Emergency Communications Centre Manager:An 87-year-old man is safe and sound after strong community connections assisted Canterbury Police in the search to locate the lost fisherman near Lake Tekapo. While the man was dressed warmly, Police were concerned he was not equipped to spend the night outdoors in the cold conditions. Police Land Search and Rescue were notified, however while response efforts were being coordinated, it became apparent the man required more urgent assistance. The man, and his trusty dog, safely returned home where he was able to warm up and get some well-earned rest. Police would especially like to thank Mr. Murray, whose local knowledge proved invaluable in helping bring the search to a successful conclusion.
