Once again, we are faced with deceitful and malevolent attacks against the state of Israel and P.M. Benjamin Netanyahu from the antisemitic Zohran Mamdani, mayor of New York City. The Israelis were accused of killing thousands of people, an accusation based on numbers from a front group of Hamas. At the end of World War II, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (1948) tried to define genocide. Except for the attacks on Hamas, Israel manifestly did not intend to cause civilians “serious bodily or mental harm.” Seeing the large group of people who are prepared to brand Israel and the Jews as perpetrators of genocide is bewildering and tragic.
