The airbag would be made of layered fabric, which would shoot out ‘from the nose, belly, and tail in under two sec,’ thereby potentially absorbing any impact. Deployment would be made in staggered fashion which would use CO2 canisters and sensors, alerting pilots and preparing the plane for an emergency landing. Drag parachutes would then help to produce reverse thrust to slow the aircraft in a controlled touchdown.
