Parks Canada has laid charges after investigating a social media video showing two hikers and their off-leash dog being followed by a grizzly bear in Banff National Park.
In a statement to Daily Hive, Parks Canada says the encounter occurred on the Taylor Lake Trail on July 19, 2026.
“Park wardens have identified the individuals involved and laid charges for having an off-leash dog under section five of the National Parks of Canada Domestic Animal Regulations.”
Charges for having an off-leash dog in national parks can reach up to $25,000.
Parks Canada said failing to keep pets leashed in national parks can put both wildlife and pets at risk.
