Man who drink-drove after watching England win fined and banned

Exeter Magistrates’ Court heard the 63-year-old had been celebrating England’s 2-1 win against the Democratic Republic of Congo with four cans of beer.
Officers were called after a neighbour reported seeing the defendant drive to the shops and return ten minutes later.

His defence lawyer told the court that Stephens, who was previously employed by the city council, had been watching the football and drove to the shops to get a bottle of wine.
He must also pay a victim surcharge of £48 and costs of £85.
