In a similar fashion to the groundbreaking ceremony at St. Mary’s in Gypsum this past May, it was Edwards’ turn to celebrate a milestone with the groundbreaking for St. Clare of Assisi’s new church on Friday. A crowd gathered under the blazing sun for the blessing and groundbreaking ceremony on the future site of St. Clare of Assisi in Edwards. “If you look around the United States, many churches are closing and consolidating, and here we are building,” Archbishop Golka said. Many obstacles must be overcome, but according to Archbishop Golka, the greatest challenge is funding. Initial construction work for St. Clare of Assisi will begin this September, with a grand opening scheduled for February 2028.
