In the 19th-20th centuries, after the abolition of serfdom in Russia and the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway, a mass resettlement of Ukrainians began in several regions of Russia. Thus, in the southern part of Russia, Malinovyi Klyn (transl. Ukrainians called a plot of land, which in Estonian was called jaosmaa, a klyn. Later, it became a general name for all areas where Ukrainians lived outside of Ukraine. In the aforementioned areas, the share of Ukrainians in the local population was up to 70 percent.
