Indiana Michigan Power has signed the White House’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge, released by the Trump administration as a way to assure Americans that their electric rates won’t skyrocket as a result of the data center buildout happening around the country. I&M’s Schnee Doyle tells us the pledge matches the utility’s own policy of keeping rates low for customers. “The Ratepayer Protection Pledge is really about making sure growth is fair for everyone, and especially our customers,” Doyle said. “Signing this pledge just reinforces what we’re already focused on at I&M, and that’s making sure that growth benefits everyone, including our customers.” The companies also agree to utility rate structures that require them to pay for the power infrastructure even if they don’t use all of the electricity.
