A group of veteran journalists and media advocates has launched the Western Colorado Journalism Foundation , a nonprofit organization aimed at strengthening local journalism across Colorado’s Western Slope. Jay Seaton, publisher of The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, is the executive director of the Western Colorado Journalism Foundation. Western Colorado Journalism Foundation/CourtesyColorado Mesa University journalism professor Laurena Mayne Davis, who serves on the foundation’s board, said partnerships between universities and professional news organizations have become increasingly important as newsrooms shrink. “And that’s where the Western Colorado Journalism Foundation comes in.” The foundation joins a growing number of nonprofit journalism organizations in Colorado.
