The head of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, condemned the latest attacks targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea, warning of their impact on global maritime safety and the marine environment. Speaking on Thursday, Dominguez said he “strongly denounces” the assaults on international navigation in the Red Sea, voicing concern over potential pollution risks arising from such incidents in both the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks followed claims by Yemen’s Houthi group that it was responsible for attacking two Saudi oil tankers. Saudi state news agency later confirmed that one of the vessels was hit, sparking a fire as it transited the Red Sea. The IMO chief’s statement comes amid mounting international fears that repeated attacks could undermine maritime security and disrupt global supply chains.
