Journalism winning last year’s Preakness under Umberto Rispoli. Photo: NBCThe four-year-old has a breeding career at Ashford to look forward to. Journalism’s story isn’t over (he’ll stand at #1 owner Coolmore America’s Ashford Stud from next year), but his racing journey has come to an end. The decision to swap racetracks for covering barns was made in light of the four-year-old sustaining a starting gate injury before last weekend’s Grade 2 San Diego Handicap, even though he overcame it to prevail by three quarters of a length. That final-start victory, after which he was promoted from #59 to #43 in our rankings, was the last of six major Graded titles, his tally having opened at the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity in his two-year-old year.
