Security Tightened Across Kashmir After Policeman’s Killing in Anantnag

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Saturday stepped up checking and surveillance across several parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar, Pulwama and Kulgam, following the recent killing of a police head constable in Anantnag and in response to specific intelligence inputs.
Road and Residency Road, where buses, Sumo vehicles and other public transport were stopped and inspected.
Officials said the intensified checking formed part of preventive security arrangements at vulnerable locations and was carried out without causing major disruption to traffic.
The heightened security measures follow the killing of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi on July 22.
Officials said security has been significantly strengthened across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the attack, with enhanced vigilance, increased vehicle checking and intensified surveillance at sensitive locations.
