The stars are out early this year at San Diego Comic-Con. To promote Johnny Depp’s upcoming film, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, Paramount Pictures set up a faux 1880s British Christmas village in San Diego’s Gaslamp district, and the three-time Oscar nominee surprised the crowd when he emerged from the door of the installation. The stunt began with Victorian carolers emerging singing Christmas songs, after which Depp-as-Scrooge appeared in the window of the mock storefront. Later, another character in Dickensian period garb began asking him about fair wages, which drew only grumbles from Scrooge. What a treat for fans who happened to be at the right place at the right time!
