Photo: EFE/ Ronald Peña RMore than 8,000 structures in Caracas have been inspected by the College of Engineers of Venezuela (CIV) following the earthquakes of June 24, with the aim of determining their habitability, identifying critical failures, and providing recommendations to communities and local authorities to mitigate vulnerabilities. : More Than 8,000 Structures Have Been Inspected by Engineers After Earthquakes in VenezuelaThis was reported by the CIV in a press release, which detailed that more than 70% of the inspected buildings were classified as habitable and around 25% under “habitable with caution” or “uninhabitable.” In addition, this disaster left some 856 buildings affected and 190 collapsed. The World Bank estimated on Thursday the direct physical damage caused by the earthquakes that shook Venezuela at 19.6 billion dollars and warned that a slow reconstruction could hinder the country’s economic recovery over the next decade.
