Petrobangla today said local and foreign technical teams are working to repair and restart an Excelerate Energy-operated floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in Moheshkhali, but gave no timeline for restoring normal gas supply.
The shutdown of the FSRU has reduced gas supply to the national grid by around 450 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), or by 17 percent, bringing total supply down to around 2,170 mmcfd against demand of nearly 3,800 mmcfd.
“The operator, Excelerate Energy, only informed us that a technical fault had occurred, but did not specify the cause.
The latest Petrobangla statement did not clarify whether the foreign technical team has identified the cause of the fault or how long the FSRU may remain offline.
Bangladesh currently has two FSRUs, which together supply around 970 mmcfd of LNG to the national gas grid, accounting for roughly 37 percent of the country's total gas supply of 2,620 mmcfd.
