The Plaza Classic Film Festival just dropped a big guest announcement for this year: Gregory Nava, the trailblazing Latino filmmaker behind Selena and El Norte, is coming to El Paso for this year's festival. El Norte (1983) became the first American independent film to earn an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The Queen of Tejano performed at Fiesta de las Flores in 1989 and played the El Paso County Coliseum multiple times, including her final El Paso concert on August 6th, 1994, less than a year before her death. The Plaza Classic Film Festival runs til July 26th at the Plaza Theatre and surrounding Downtown venues. Some of them, like Alan Tudyk, have played so many famous characters, its crazy that we could ever forget they were El Paso born!
