Iran accused the European Union of hypocrisy on Saturday, after the bloc imposed sanctions on six Iranian citizens over ‘human rights violations’, while Tehran argued that Brussels has failed to condemn war crimes by the United States and Israel. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagaei, in a post on the social media platform X, directly questioned how the EU could reconcile its professed human-rights commitment with providing logistical and technical backing for lethal aggressions deliberately targeting Iranian civilians and critical infrastructure. His remarks were addressed to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. He concluded that this represented not merely a loss of credibility, but “the banality of evil and the purest form of hypocrisy.” @Kajakallas speaks of the European Union’s “human rights concerns” regarding Iran.
