After six years as head coach, and following the team’s most successful season under him, Newton Softball coach Kory Leiker stepped down from the program on Friday. Leiker took over the Cardinal Softball Program in 2020-2021, after the team went winless the prior year. Newton won six conference games and finished his first season 16-19. Leiker believes the young team he’s leaving has the talent to get there again. Under Leiker, the Newton softball program won 37 conference games and lost 80, and had 88 total wins and 108 losses.
