Even by the Foley Institute’s own criteria, including commitment to ethical leadership, integrity, bipartisanship and democratic values, the decision to honor Pence is truly bewildering. Make no mistake, he repeatedly looked for ways to justify betraying the Constitution, the American people and basic democratic values to remain in power. He is not a man of high moral and ethical integrity, nor is he a champion of democratic values. The decision to honor Pence is a betrayal to communities WSU claims to support. Students have enrolled and donors have given money based on commitments from the university to champion marginalized communities, communities that have been left weakened by the policies and cowardice of Mike Pence.
