While visiting Paris on July 13, 2026, Ukraine’s unelected president, Volodymyr Zelensky, awarded his French host, President Emmanuel Macron, the Ukrainian Order of Freedom. Germany, France, and the United Kingdom plan for this coalition to replace NATO once the United States withdraws from the alliance. Delegations from each allied army joined the particularly massive National Day parade (6,700 troops on foot, 98 aircraft, 31 helicopters, and 315 vehicles) on July 14. Twenty-five members of the Ukrainian presidential guard marched proudly, to the applause of the twenty heads of state and government in attendance. Since 2021, these soldiers have rendered national honors at the funerals of former Ukrainian SS members.
